Trump Accounts opened for contributions on July 4. Your kid was born after January 1, 2025, you filed Form 4547, and three weeks later there is no $1,000 in the account. You are not crazy and you are not being scammed. Roughly $1.5 billion has landed in accounts already. Yours is likely still in a queue.
Where the numbers actually stand
The Treasury Department told MarketWatch on July 24 that 7 million kids have been signed up for Trump Accounts and 1.7 million of them are eligible for the $1,000 seed contribution (MarketWatch via Morningstar). Only kids born between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2028 qualify for the seed. Older kids get the account without the free money.
Treasury says the standard wait between account opening and the deposit hitting is one to two days. Some parents are hitting exactly that. Others are watching “pending” sit on the portal for weeks. Financial advisers quoted by MarketWatch say the delays look like processing bottlenecks, not denials, which is a soft way of saying the plumbing is not fully built.
Here’s what they don’t tell you
The account is a 530A account, an IRS section number. The money goes into one fund only right now: the SPDR Portfolio S&P 500 ETF (SPYM), a low-cost broad U.S. equity index. That is not a menu, it is one option. There is no allocation decision to make. Chase’s own explainer confirms the growth-period rules through age 17 and the traditional IRA conversion at 18 (Chase).
The Social Security Administration announced on July 3 that it is rolling in Trump Account enrollment through the Enumeration at Birth program at hospitals (SSA). Translation: newborns are going to be auto-enrolled through the same hospital form used to get a Social Security number. If your baby arrives after that rollout completes, you may not need to file Form 4547 at all.
The scammers already showed up
Treasury and the IRS have both warned about emails and texts claiming to speed up your seed transfer or “unlock” a locked Trump Account. No one is going to email you to fix your kid’s account. If you get a message with a link, do not click. Do not call the number in the text.
Do this now
Log in to trumpaccounts.gov by typing the URL yourself, not from a search result. If you do not have an ID.me identity account already, you will need to set one up to access the portal. If the account status shows “pending” or “processing,” that is the standard queue.
If you filed Form 4547 with your 2025 tax return and there is no account on the portal at all, check the mail. The IRS will contact you through mailed notices and IRS.gov, not through texts.
If it has been more than two weeks since your account showed active and no seed has landed, the number to call is on the trumpaccounts.gov contact page, not a random 800 number you find on Google.
Real money. $1,000 at an 8% long-run market return for 18 years is about $4,000 by the time your kid is old enough to see it. Free grand for a Form 4547. Take it, confirm it landed, and file the paperwork away.
